<![CDATA[Rest | Relate | Rise]]>Fri, 19 Jun 2020 22:30:29 GMThttp://fpcstatesboro.org/pastor-taylors-blog/rest-relate-riseGreetings, beloved children of God!

I pray this note reaches you in a place of health and rest, safekeeping and remembrance that you are not alone. We all need a dose of that these days, don’t we? We at First Presbyterian have been thinking about how we might offer a rhythm amidst this chaos when we find our email inboxes full of one more idea or update, the news cycle ceaseless, our living quarters all too familiar, prayer lists lengthened with each day.

To that end, we’ve developed a weekly rhythm we’re calling Rest | Relate | Rise. This isn’t to give you one more option to fill your days but rather the opposite - to offer a spiritual structure in a time when God is calling us to turn to the divine power of love lived out and practiced again and again. In the wilderness, in exile, in those days after Jesus’ death, in the swirl of the early church - God’s people held fast to that which lasts. To Scripture and prayer, to relationships and care, to serving and loving neighbors as themselves.

So - every day (even if it is a stolen minute when you’ve snuck into the corner of your house away from your kiddos like I am doing right now!), we are going to do the same. Attached is a two-page introduction to our rhythm, inviting you to either rest, relate, rise in one way or another every day. We’ll be using a variety of mediums to live into the rhythm but you can also simply print out the first page of the document and keep it on your refrigerator, joining in the activity at your own pace. No computer is needed. If you’re interested in learning how to use Zoom, the second page of the document explains how to do so. We’ll post a reminder and/or option daily via Facebook and instagram to keep you in the loop.

Here is a quick layout of our Rest | Relate | Rise rhythm: Today is Mission Monday and we’re asking folks to join community volunteers and serve Statesboro and Bulloch County during this critical time. Sign-up via this form: bit.ly/BCVOADC19Vol. Later this week, we’ll have Tune-In Tuesday where you can join me in a Zoom Bible Study @ 10am, With You Wednesday, where we hope you’ll reach out to someone in our church who could use a call/note, Thoughtful Thursday where we’ll teach a spiritual practice, Fellowship Friday is when we’re asking you to make a new FPC friend via phone call or video chat, Sabbath Saturday is rest!, and Sacred Sunday you can join us online or our podcast for worship. (Again, all of this is in the attached document.)

When Jesus met with his disciples, he didn’t remove them from their contexts to teach them. Instead, he plopped them right down where they were and showed them still a better way - listening to his Word, connecting with one another, and calling them into discipleship. Let’s be church - even at a distance - held fast by Jesus’ love and hope for us.

Church say Amen?
Amen!
Peace,
Pastor Taylor
