<![CDATA[Coping with Anxiousness and Disruption: The Bible, our instruction manual for life]]>Mon, 08 Jun 2020 16:27:40 GMThttp://fpcstatesboro.org/with-you-wednesday/may-13-2020Greetings, Friends, from your Congregational Care Committee:

Last week’s With You Wednesday focused on students of all ages whose lives have been disrupted with campuses being closed and routines being completely unraveled. This week we are focusing on teachers and those who teach…in other words, all of us.

Now, we hear you saying that you are not a teacher, so this WYW really is not for you. Not so! Think about all the teaching you have done in your life and that you continue to do. Have you taught your children or nieces and nephews anything? What about the children of the church? Other adults in continuing education at the office or on the job site? You get our point; we all teach, and we all learn.
During this spring of 2020, we have taught ourselves and others many life lessons; we have learned even more in all likelihood. Some of us have had our professional lives as teachers modified greatly, and others have had to take on the roles of teachers to our children or our children’s children. It has been a season of uncharted seas with all the hazards that go with that kind of sailing.

If you can relate to the anxiousness and concern that disruption to our usual routines and tasks has caused, or if you have heard about others experiencing the stress in trying to keep their children’s schooling on track, this WYW is for you! (It is for us…we are with you!)

The Bible, our instruction manual for life, has the answers to our questions and the promise of God’s grace for our lives. It is remarkable just how timely the instructions and advice are in this book of the ages! The following verses are good spiritual reminders for us:
• Proverbs 16:16 How much better to get wisdom than gold! To get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.
• Proverbs 22:6 Train children in the right way, and when old, they will not stray.
• 1 Peter 4:1 Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received.
• Titus 2:7 Show yourself in all respects a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, gravity,

Thinking on these things, let us go to God in prayer asking for grace, peace, and guidance as we live our lives and continue to teach and to learn.
Dear Heavenly Father, hear our prayer.
We come to you feeling overwhelmed.
We come to you with burdens and cares of this world.
We come to you not knowing what our lives will look like in the near future.
Many of us are professional educators, teachers from pre-schools through graduate schools, whose lives have been upended.
Many of us are parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts who are called to support our children’s learning and their emotional needs in this time of separation from their classroom teachers and classmates.
We struggle; we grieve; we do not know what to do.
We read in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
Please strengthen us for this journey on which we find ourselves.
Heed our prayer: “May my teaching drop like the rain, my speech condense like the dew; like gentle rain on grass, like showers on new growth.” (Deuteronomy 32:2)
Show us your will for our lives.
In the holy name of Jesus, we pray.
Amen
